Sven here again, bringing you the third installment of the New for 2010 series. We’ve taken you to the land of the rising sun all the way to northern Italy. Now to complete our tour of the axis powers, this week we go to where Sven calls home: Germany. No fancy frills or lavish designs; only clean, organized, modern practicality here (it’s good to be home).
Globally known for its luxury automobiles, BMW offers a motorcycle line like no other. Its famous GS (Gelände Sport) series has certainly proved that.

From the track to your own garage, the S1000RR is here
The hottest bike to come from the Fatherland in 2010 is the S1000RR. This Bavarian Beast has to be the most anticipated motorcycle of all for 2010. The S1000RR is offering riders a motorcycle designed for the track but built for the street. This big 1000cc behemoth has the unwieldy power expected from liter bikes (and then some), but is also coupled with the agility of a 600. What more could a superbike or sportbike fan ask for? Oh, maybe the most powerful 1000cc superbike to date. Well, you got your wish; the S1000RR kicks out a disgusting 193 HP and 83 ft/lbs weighing in at only around 450 lbs, giving it the best power to weight ratio in the industry. The design of the S1000RR is fresh and aggressive. Sven isn’t necessarily a fan of the headlight configuration (symmetry is preferred), but it does oddly give the Bavarian Beast personality; a fitting one at that.

Edgy: yes... Attractive: not so much, but still cool
Surprisingly, the S1000RR has a fairly reasonable price tag. Now be warned, like all BMW’s, be it car or bike, each model can be riddled with options (iPhone: There’s an App for that/ BMW: There’s an Option for that) and they don’t come cheap. A base model of the S1000RR will run you around $13,800 MSRP but can greatly climb a grand or two with Race ABS and Dynamic Traction Control systems.
BMW has done it yet again, showing that it can revolutionize an industry, be it cars or bikes. BMW Motorcycles might very well be the ultimate riding machine. Stay tuned for more of the New for 2010 series as we bring you the latest and greastest from Suzuki. This is Sven saying: Keep the paint up and the rubber down.
