New for 2010: Ducati

So I want to apologize for that not so interesting segment on Suzuki, but we at Bren and Sven felt that it had to be done since it is one of the Big 6. In order to make it up to all you out there we’re introducing you to something worth your while.

Can motorcycles be art? Can a motorcycle of any sorts grace the halls of a Monet or Picasso? Many would probably say “No”, but the people of Bologna, Italy would say otherwise.

Ducati has become the beauty queen of the motorcycle world; often being criticized for its designs emphasizing form over function. It may very well be so, but there is an uniqueness and personality that sets Ducati apart from the others. Oh and don’t forget the championship trophies that back up the “lack of function”.

Last year, Ducati brought us the Streetfighter: the ultimate hooligan bike. The Streetfighter is a true testament to Ducati design, and the vision continues with the new and improved Mutistrada 1200 and the smaller version of the Hypermotard 1100, the 796.

The Hyper 796: Tearing up one metropolis at a time

The Hypermotard 796 isn’t necessarily new and innovative in design, its big brother has been around for more than a year. What is new about the 796 is the smaller engine. The 90° L-Twin, that is in every Ducati, comes in at 803cc which equates to better gas mileage. The slightly smaller Hypermotard 796 comes with an APTC ‘wet’ clutch in order to prevent destabilization when aggressively down shifting, which makes the 796 an excellent commuter bike with all the stop and go of city traffic. So when you combine modern technology to a dual-sport/enduro bike, coupled with Italian design what do you get? You get the Multistada 1200. This flashy dual-sport may very well be a BMW GS killer. The Multistrada was previously offered in an 1100 edition and to be frank, looked horrible. The old design was unappealing and, well, almost seemed like it belonged to another manufacturer. Things have certainly changed for the better, the Multistrada 1200 and 1200S take cues from the rest of the modern lineup.

The biggest thing about the Multistrada 1200 is that it’s four bikes in one: Sport, Touring, Urban, and Enduro. With a simple press of a button on the handlebars, the Multistrada’s suspension, engine, and DTC (Ducati Traction Control) will adjust accordingly to optimize safety, performance (100 HP or 150 HP), and comfort. All four modes can be changed on the fly, so no need to pull over, shut off the engine, run around it 4 times and then re-mount. Like any good touring bike, Ducati offers plenty of options such as ABS and rear storage sets. For BrenandSven specs of the Multistrada 1200S click here.

So you own a Ducati Monster, but you find yourself annoyed with the same old Ducati red, black, and white like all the Monsters out there. You want to make your Monster yours, set it apart from the others. Now you can without the extreme costs of aftermarket customization, with Monster Art: Colour Therapy. With 10 additional colors available for any new Monster, riders can now have a choice in 13 unique colors for their very unique bike. Each kit offers replacable parts for the fuel tank, rear seat cowl, front fender, and headlight fairing. Installation is as simple as removing a few screws and switching parts out, no drilling required. Colour Therapy is a Ducati aprroved kit, and can be ordered by contacting your local Ducati dealer.

And finally, Ducati announced that another Ducati Dark will be available for 2010. The Sven favorite, Ducati 848 will be getting the Dark treatment. The 848 Dark is purely identical to the original 848 but dressed in a flat black finish from head to toe. Suprisingly enough, the 848 Dark is actually going to be $1,000 cheaper than a regular 848.
